Amazing Arewhana & Clever Cookies

Image
Over the last couple of weeks, Amazing Arewhana and Clever Cookies have been meeting up. The kaupapa behind the meeting up was to encorporate the Tuakana/Teina status. This has helped the Clever Cookies feel that they had someone to come to if they were needing a big buddy to play with or just to share some time together.  Mrs Hawley-Simmonds and I created a list of names of our tamariki so that each tamaiti had their own personal buddy. The first meeting was when we sat in Room 5 and looked at each other, we were both smiling and giggling because we were meeting for the first time and didn't know how to react to each other. We then went outside for a few games of 'Cat & Mouse' and 'Goose goose duck'. Both games were great. Our tamariki were building their friendships with each other, and starting to trust each other. Our next visit was when Clever Cookies came to do some 'Art' with us. This Art was for their classroom. Us teachers agreed that they wou...

The hard work we put into our decorating of our duffy box. Here we thought we were in the running of being chosen to get our 'Duffy' books signed and with a photo of our celebrity.  'Brodie Kane'... No .. we didn't win but we did win by completing our Duffy box and getting to hear about 'Brodie Kane's' life story. Here are some photos capturing our moment of  'Are we the winners?'....

Week 8 in Amazing Arewhana headquarters......

Image
This week we have been working hard in our writing and maths. We have been learning how to use the strategies in our math learning into oral language. We found it a little bit hard trying to explain how we found our answer to say it out loud using the maths language. We know we will get use to explaining our learning soon because we talk about it everyday. In Writing, we are talking about 'Myths and Legends'. To help us build our vocabulary in writing, we are researching a hero or heroine of mythical time and legends. Here are some photos of us researching and in deep thought. Also this week we have a homework assignment to complete. Fakalofa Kia ora and Talofa Amazing Arewhana have been given an assignment focused around their Writing. This will help build their experiences by using characters to form their stories. The theme we are focusing on is ‘Myths & Legends’. Together we have designed a mock board game but their mission at home will be to des...

Reflection with Maths

Image
Kia ora tātou... Welcome to Week 7. We are learning how to reflect on our maths. Every day we get to ask each other questions. We have a criteria to help us answer the questions. We think it is fun. We are getting used to it and enjoy asking each other what strategy we learned and how to reply using math language. We hope to become great mathematicians one day. (Well that's what our teacher said we could become?!!).. Thank you for visiting our blog. Until next week, we say 'Ka kite' Amazing Arewhana over and out.

Kia kaha and Swimming programmes

Image
Amazing Arewhana have been busy these last 5 weeks, from having Constable Nicki to swimming in our school pool. Constable Nicki is doing a programme called Kia Kaha and we are learning to deal with bullies!! Zero Tolerance!! The types of behaviours we should be using in and outside our classroom. Swimming has started and it has been cold. Our teacher shows how to walk into the pool safely and how to walk around the pool. We also used the float board to learn to kick and float from one side of the pool to another. We also used the hula hoops to swim through.  We have two more weeks of swimming and we are looking forward to them. Til next time.  Ciao From Amazing Arewhana.

Welcome to Room 15 - Amazing Arewhana in the making!!!!

Our first week at school. On our first day back to school, we were all nervous firstly because our teacher was new to our school, and secondly we were all going to be in a new block. Our first day was a good day. Through the week we started talking about our 'branding name'. Our teacher used statistics, by making a tally graph and then a bar graph we had managed to find our name. Unfortunately our first name was not chosen because it was a name used in 2016. So we put our heads together again and our teacher said that we could be like elephants as they have great memories. Therefore our name emerged to 'Amazing Arewhana' (Elephants) based on holding on to great memories in the making. Hope you enjoy our 2017 journey. Signing out. Amazing Arewhana.
