Individuality Song Amazing Arewhana love to sing and to do Zumba fitness. Singing is a part of our daily ritual of learning. Singing makes us happy and it helps us to clear our minds, as we don't have to think when we sing. We may not have the best voices like Beyonce or Shakira or even Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, but we try to stay in tune and time. We wanted to show everyone what we sound like now because we know we will get better in time. Zumba Fitness Zumba has become a new fad for these children. As their teacher, I am lucky enough to use my Zumba Kids training with them. Being a qualified Zumba Instructor gives me the opportunity to teach and help children enjoy movement, beat, and rhythm. You don't need to know how to dance, all you need to know is to move your body, sway your body and feel the music take you away.  Amazing Arewhana have Zumba fitness every morning and then sometimes do combined morning Zumba fitness with the Rocketeers. Thanks for v...

Our Patterns and Writing

Image
This week Amazing Arewhana were able to complete their Samoan patterns and their writing that went with it. The children were able to choose patterns that they could relate to in their everyday lives. These are the finished pieces of work Amazing Arewhana have done. They are very proud of their accomplishments and can't wait to design more patterns at MATARIKI time.

READING EGG AWARD

Image
Last week Amazing Arewhana were privileged to win the READING EGGS AWARD. This entails the Reading and spelling these children are doing. Keep up with the great learning Amazing Arewhana. The papers they are holding up are the patterns they made during Samoan Language week. They learnt shapes have meanings. For example, birds, the sun, the pandura leaf, circle of life, spear head, fish, turtle, and the worm were used in all patterns to do with the Malu and the Pe'a.  The children are really excited that they were able to sketch their art, they learnt about Tatau.

Anzac Day

Image
Doreen Ezekiel Rehu Last term Amazing Arewhana talked about Anzac day. We spoke about the importance of the day and why we celebrate it and have a holiday on that day. During the holiday some family members went to a Dawn Parade. That is what we talked about when we came back.  In week 1, Amazing Arewhana read a book called 'Dawn Parade'. This gave the children a bigger picture of the dawn parade for some families when they go to celebrate Anzac day. Here we have some published writing. We drafted our writing with simple sentences, then we revised our writing to see if we could make some changes in it. Once we proofread our work, some of us were able to publish our work.  If you have time, please come to our windows as we have some writing up for all to read.  Leave a comment too. Thank you for visiting our blog.

Our First 'TEAM' Assembly. Term 2

Image
Amazing Arewhana Term 2 has started and Amazing Arewhana have already shown our team 'ROCKETEERS' that we mean business... By walking to the our assembly quietly, sensible, and paying attention to where we were walking, we were given the award for  'BEST CLASS AWARD'. We were told that we came into the hall quietly and sat up straight away and continued to do so throughout the Assembly. We were very happy. We will continue to set the bar for our 'Rocketeers' Team. We have a new 'Team Leader', Mrs Turu. She has come from 'High Flyers' and has accepted the role of being our Team Leader. We are really excited to have her in our team as she has started the 'Tidy Kiwi' Award, which means our classes and cloak bays need to be clean all the time and we will be told who the winner is at each assembly. We will always be trying to keep our class clean inside and outside our classroom. We also have a new teacher in our team. She is in...

Amazing Arewhana & Clever Cookies

Image
Over the last couple of weeks, Amazing Arewhana and Clever Cookies have been meeting up. The kaupapa behind the meeting up was to encorporate the Tuakana/Teina status. This has helped the Clever Cookies feel that they had someone to come to if they were needing a big buddy to play with or just to share some time together.  Mrs Hawley-Simmonds and I created a list of names of our tamariki so that each tamaiti had their own personal buddy. The first meeting was when we sat in Room 5 and looked at each other, we were both smiling and giggling because we were meeting for the first time and didn't know how to react to each other. We then went outside for a few games of 'Cat & Mouse' and 'Goose goose duck'. Both games were great. Our tamariki were building their friendships with each other, and starting to trust each other. Our next visit was when Clever Cookies came to do some 'Art' with us. This Art was for their classroom. Us teachers agreed that they wou...
